Brogan Pharmaceuticals is a success story every person in Crown Point – and everywhere else – can get behind.
The startup company‚ one of the first associated with the Purdue Technology Center‚ was formed to bring rare disease-combating drugs to the U.S. market. According to Brett Dines‚ Brogan president and CEO‚ more than 25 million Americans suffer from more than 4‚000 rare diseases – a population often forgotten in new drug development.
The rare part of the equation often scares off larger drug companies‚ who have their eye exclusively on the bottom line. That’s not the case for Brogan.
“We look at the social benefits as well as the economic benefits‚” Dines says.
The first product being pursued by the company is a drug available overseas that helps diagnose the effectiveness of treatments in children suffering from cancer. Use of the drug speeds up recognition when a child falls out of remission and a new treatment program is necessary.
“It has a profound effect on success rates‚” says Dines‚ whose 2-year-old company is building a facility in the city that will eventually manufacture this and other drugs.
