Turn off 101st Avenue through the landscaped entryway of Summer Tree Estates. You will pass a lovely pond area and upscale residences‚ then pull into a stately country club surrounded by 18 holes that hold the promise of a pleasant afternoon on the greens.
That’s the vision of Dave Van Dyke and Precision Construction‚ who began the development of Summer Tree in late 2005. They are currently in Phase I of the four-phase undertaking.
“We have built many communities in the area‚ including White Oak Estates [single-family executive homes] in Munster and Stonebridge Estates [121 single-family home sites]‚ among others‚” says Mark Decker‚ marketing director of Precision Construction.
A good many of those have been sold‚ Decker adds‚ so the time seemed ripe to start a new community.
All of Precision’s developments have been wrapped around community life style amenities‚ such as nearby shopping or wildlife preserves with walking trails. This is the first golf community for the company. The 334 home sites are in two areas: 214 single-family homes and 120 paired villas (upscale duplexes). Prices for the single-family units range from $300‚000 up to $1 million. The paired villas start at $200‚000.
“Another feature of our communities are the gently winding streets‚” says Decker. “It’s not just straight streets‚ house‚ house‚ house. He [Van Dyke] really plans a community correctly. There is beautiful signage and land scaping‚ really a nice look and feel.”
There are other opportunities to tee off in the Crown Point city limits‚ including White Hawk Country Club (semi-private with residential)‚ Pheasant Valley (public)‚ Oak Knoll (public) and Youche Country Club (private)‚ in addition to several more within 10 miles.
“There are wonderful golf oppor tunities in the area‚” says Gayle Van Sessen‚ executive director of the Crown Point Chamber of Commerce. “But‚ as it is with golfing‚ there is always room for more.”
